In the winter of 1636, Dutch traders were buying and selling tulip bulbs that were still in the ground: paper promises on flowers nobody had seen. The rarest bulbs changed hands for more than a craftsman earned in a decade. In February 1637 the bids stopped, and a tulip went back to being worth a tulip. The AI age keeps landing on one idea: when anyone can make anything, the last real edge is taste. Kazimir Malevich got there in 1915. He painted a black circle on a white ground, hung it like a holy icon, and dared us to find it worth something. Taste decided it was worth a lot. Money runs on the same wager. When issuing money is easy, the edge isn't printing it. It's trust. Circles is money built on that one decision.
